ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - - A pair of complete game shutouts anchored the Wilmington University softball sweep at Nyack on Monday, as the Wildcats won both games, 2-0, at the South Orangetown Little League field.

The games were moved from their regularly scheduled date on Saturday due to the weekend weather. The Wildcats stayed atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings with the two wins, moving to 21-15 overall and 15-1 in the CACC. Nyack fell to 7-27 overall and 4-12 in the CACC with the two losses.

Freshman Caitlyn Whiteside started the pitching dominance in game one, striking out 10 while only allowing five hits for her team leading eighth win of the season. Not to be outdone, sophomore Danielle Bradley came back and struck out eight batters in the game two complete game shutout, moving to 6-5 on the season.

All the scoring Whiteside needed in game one came off the bat of junior Becca Stanley in the top of the third inning. With one out and the bases empty, Stanley launched her third home run of the season, giving the Wildcats the 1-0 lead. Meghan Brown added an insurance run in the fourth, scoring Kaitlyn Slater on a sacrifice fly.

With the two-run lead, Whiteside only allowed a leadoff single in the fourth, a one-out single in the sixth, and a one-out double in the seventh before closing out the game for her third complete game of the year.

Stanley, Slater, and Colby Wyatt all collected two hits in the opener, with Stanley's being the only extra-base hit.

Bradley carried the momentum into the nightcap, setting the first 12 Nyack batters down in order.  She didn't allow a base runner until a leadoff walk in the fifth, but then came back with a pair of strikeouts before inducing a grounder to get escape the inning.

All the offense Bradley needed came in the fourth inning, as the pitcher helped her own cause by starting the frame with a leadoff double. Two batters later, Wyatt chased Bradley home with an RBI triple before Brown singled in Wyatt for the quick 2-0 lead.

The no-hitter was ruined in the bottom of the sixth, as the Warriors picked up their lone hit of the game to lead off the inning. Bradley buckled down and picked up a strikeout before inducing a line drive double play to end it. Bradley then went 1-2-3 in the seventh to close out the sweep.

Wyatt was the only Wildcat with two hits in the nightcap, going 4-for-6 with a triple in the doubleheader.

Monday started a long week for the Wildcats, as they continue in their CACC schedule with games at crosstown rival Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday. The doubleheader will start with a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
