Bats Continue to Warm Up for #24 Softball in 10-1 and 7-2 Sweep at Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The bats are starting to warm up for the 24th ranked Wilmington University softball team, as the Wildcats swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader from Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, 10-1 (6 inn.) and 7-2, at the CHC Softball Field.   

Coming off the doubleheader sweep on Monday which saw the Wildcats (13-10, 4-0 CACC) pick up 30 hits, the Wildcats added 24 more hits against the Griffins, hitting seven extra base hits.

GAME 1:
The Wildcats scored eight runs in a three inning stretch to put the pressure on the Griffins.

Sara Miller stayed red hot off her performance from St. Thomas Aquinas, staring the second inning off with a walk and two stolen bases. Bri Coyle then doubled to the gap in right center to start the scoring. Bella Barnes followed with a two-out RBI single, making it 2-0 after two innings.

The Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the third. Gabriella Saucedo deposited two runs with a single through the left side and then Bella Barnes was at it again, hitting a two-run double to left to make it a 6-0 lead.

Sara Miller added to the lead in the top of the fourth, doubling to center to plate Eve Serrato and Lexi Moore for the 8-0 lead. Haley Downin capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth.

Delani Sheehan went the first four innings, allowing a run on three hits before passing it off to Haley Downin for the final two frames. She only allowed two hits in the scoreless outing.

Bella Barnes went 2-for-4 with three RBI while Sara Miller and Gabriella Saucedo had two hits and two RBI each.

GAME 2:
The Wildcats scored late in game two, finally figuring out Griffin starter Michelle Baker.

Wilmington left the bases loaded in the top of the first but picked up a run in the second. Rylee Maloney kept running after a collision in the field, scoring on a bunt single from Haley Downin. But then the Wildcats didn't score again until the fifth.

Eve Serrato stayed hot from Monday's doubleheader as well, tripling to center to leadoff the fifth. Taylor Gillis brought her home with a single to start the scoring. Bri Coyle brought in two more with a single up the middle, plating Gillis and Moore for the 4-0 lead.

Gillis and Serrato who at it again in the sixth as Gillis hit a ground-rule double to chase Serrato around.

Isabella Eleazar got in on the action in the top of the seventh inning, scoring Bri Coyle with a single. Rylee Maloney hit another ground-rule double, scoring Eleazar to cap the scoring in the game, 7-2.

Taylor Gillis and Bri Coyle each went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Lexi Moore, Isabella Eleazar and Eve Serrato all finished with two hits. Delani Sheehan struck out five in 3.2 innings of relief. Kylee Gunkle pitched a scoreless 3.1 innings with three punchouts.

UP NEXT:
The Wildcats are off until the weekend when they host Felician and Adelphi. They play the Golden Falcons on Saturday with the first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m. at Asbury Field.
