Delani Sheehan Leads Five Wildcats Named All-East Region

NEWARK, Del. - - Heading into its fourth straight NCAA East Super Regional Series, five Wilmington University softball student-athletes have been announced as All-Region selections, according to both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).

Delani Sheehan was named a First Team All-Region performer by both organizations while Emma Zimmerman, Sydney Hatch, Maddie Vollmar, and Tristyn Stewart were named Second Team All-Region by one or both organizations.

Delani Sheehan (New Castle, Del.) earns her second straight All-Region honor, but moves up to First Team this year as a utility/pitcher. She was a Second Team NFCA All-Region selection a year ago. This season, Sheehan is 12-8 in the circle with two saves and eight complete games. She is second on the team with a 124.1 innings pitched but leads the team with 118 punchouts. She is carrying a 2.70 ERA into the Super Regionals. At the plate, she is a .273 hitter with four doubles and two homers, knocking in 11 RBI throughout the season.

Tristyn Stewart (Centreville, Md.) was named Second Team All-East Region by both organizations, again setting the table for the rest of the Wildcat lineup. She is second on the team with a .368 batting average, leading the team with 60 hits, 44 runs scored, and 38 stolen bases. She has a career high eight doubles this year and now has 233 career hits, 156 career runs and 134 career stolen bases, all while continuing to play Gold Glove level defense in the outfield.

Sydney Hatch (Magnolia, Del.) was named Second Team All-East Region by both organizations as well, settling into first base in her freshman season. She leads the team with a .394 batting average, collecting 39 hits including nine doubles, two triple, two homers, and 23 RBI. She knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth to win the NCAA Division II East Region 2 Bracket.

Emma Zimmerman (Aberdeen, Md.) is an All-Region selection for the first time in her career, following up on her First Team All-CACC selection. She was selected as the Second Team All-Region catcher by the NFCA. She is hitting .306 on the year with six doubles, a homer and 18 RBI. She has also thrown out seven base runners this year and became the program's all-time leader in runners caught stealing, now with 31 in her career.

Maddie Vollmar (Thornton, Colo.) has come back from her injury and been in the mix both offensively and in the circle in the postseason. She has been selected as a Second Team All-Region outfielder by the NFCA. She leads the Wildcats with 10 doubles on the year, adding three triples and a home run while batting .345. She was named the CACC Tournament MVP and won game seven in the circle of the NCA DII East Region 2 Tournament. She has scored 29 runs while knocking in 18, adding 11 stolen bases as well.

Caldwell's Ashleigh Tavaska was named the D2CCA Player of the Year while Pace's Gissele Garcia was named the D2CCA Pitcher of the Year. The Wildcats' Kylee Gunkel was named the 2024 D2CCA Pitcher of the Year, and the two teams meet in the Super Regional this week.
