MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - - The Wilmington University track and field teams opened their 2025 outdoor season in Myrtle Beach, competing against all divisions at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge on Friday and Saturday inside Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

The Wildcats scored points in the large field, which was won by Appalachian State on both sides. The Wildcats scored seven points to finish 23rd overall while the women scored five points to finish 26th.

Sytieia Brown was the scorer on the women's side for the Wildcats, setting a new outdoor school record in the shot put. She launched the cannonball 12.46 meters to finish fourth overall to give the Wildcats five points. It's not the overall school record, as she had a 12.58-meter toss indoors earlier this year.

The men scored in two events this weekend, getting seven points from the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump. Freshman TJ Taiwo impressed in his first outdoor weekend, finishing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.14 seconds. He ran a 15.34 in the prelims to qualify. Bradley Spencer also qualified for the finals in the 110-meters, running a 15.33 in the prelims and then finished eighth overall in the finals with a 15.94 to give the Wildcats another point.

The women had a number of personal records this weekend, including Angie Chomo who set new personal records in the 1500-meter and the 800-meter race. She finished 14th in the 1500-meter in 5:27.42 and 24th in the collegiate 800-meter final, finishing in 2:36.67.

Deja Curry set a personal record in the 800-meter as well, running to a 22nd place finish in 2:41.62. Maddie Minnick set new times in the 1500-meter and the 5000-meter while Sammy Banning set a new personal record in the 5000-meter race. Trinity Fortune-Medine set a new mark in the hammer throw for the Wildcats as well.

On the men's side Bostwick Patten led the men in 400-meter race and anchored the 4x400-meter relay team. He set a personal record with a 21st place finish in 50:53 seconds. Trent Taylor finished just outside the points with a ninth-place finish in the 5000-meter event, running in a time of 15:39.12.

The Wildcats are back in action next weekend, making the short trip to West Chester on Saturday afternoon. The Purple & Gold Open will take place at Farrell Stadium at West Chester.
