Sytieia Brown Wins Hammer Throw; Tiffany Banning and Rayhan Issah Second Team All-CACC After Day 1 at CACC Championships

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - One champion and two second-place finishes highlighted the Wilmington University track and field teams on day one at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships on Friday at Georgian Court's Track and Field Complex.

To earn All-Conference, a student-athlete must finish first or second in the finals of the event.

After the first day, the women are in second place with 30.50 team points while the men are in third place with a total of 36 points.

Sytieia Brown earned All-CACC Champion status in the hammer throw, beating the field of 12 throwers with a toss of 43.86 meters. She earned 10 points towards the team total.

Tiffany Banning picked up a Second Team All-CACC honor with a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter race, running the longest distance event in 42:07.67 for eighth points. Felician's Cynthia Delapaz won the event with a time of 41:52.38. Twin sister Sammy Banning placed third overall in the long-distance race, finishing with a time of 43:45.73 for six points. Maddie Minnick scored as well for the Wildcats, finishing eighth overall in 48:08.77 for one point.

Cadance Bell placed sixth overall in the 100-meter hurdles race, earning three points with a time of 16.93. Temi Mustapha added 2.50 points for the Wildcats with a sixth place finish in the long jump. She went a distance of 5.20 meters for her bet of the day.

The men had one Second Team All-CACC finisher in Rayhan Issah in the long jump. He finished second overall with a jump of 7.03 meters for eighth points. He beat teammate Rob Powell who finished third overall with a day's best 7.01 meters for six points. Donte Dockery added four points in the long jump with a distance of 6.83 meters.

Carter Sparwasser finished third overall in the 10,000 meter race, running the 25 laps in a time of 35:12.36 for six team points. Joe Volk just missed the points, finishing ninth with a time of 39:05.26.

Over in the throws pit, Christian Dollard placed third overall in the hammer, earning six points with a distance of 46.73 meters. Sam Distler added three points with a sixth place finish of 40.99 meters. Braeden Peterson collected three points in the javelin event, finishing sixth overall with a day's best 40.99 meters.

A number of student-athletes also qualified for finals runs on Saturday, including Temi Mustapha qualifying first in the 100-meter race and TJ Taiwo qualifying first in the 110-meter hurdles and second in the 400-meter hurdle event.

The completion of the CACC Championship will take place on Saturday on the campus of Georgian Court University.
