Women’s Basketball Wraps Up Nonconference Play with 70-40 Loss to Queens

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's basketball team dropped its last nonconference matchup of the season to East Coast Conference opponent Queens College, 70-40, at the WU Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

The Wildcats (2-23) ran into a hot first-quarter shooting performance by the Knights (8-16) as they scored 20 points on 9-of-15 from the field. Fatou Ndao's effort helped the Wildcats early as Ndao grabbed an offensive board which was then converted into two points by Daja Claiborne at 7:19 in the first. In the next defensive possession, Ndao recorded the first Wildcat block. The Wildcats scored eight out of their 10 points in the final five minutes of play. Daja Claiborne was responsible for the Wildcat's final points of the first quarter from an assist by Jade Roberts.

The Wildcats opened up the scoring in the second quarter, with Fatou Ndao earning two shots at the free-throw line, sinking both. The Wildcats would get to the free throw line one more time at 4:23, with Jade Roberts making one of two from the line. The Wildcats' only other basket came from a buzzer-beating jump shot by Emani Lucas-Davis to finish the half trailing, 31-15.

The Wildcats would score their most points in a quarter this game in the third with 16 points. The Wilmington starters were responsible for all 16 points in the quarter and were led by Amaja Mack's five points. The Wildcats scored 11 of their 16 points in the last four minutes of the quarter. Amaja Mack and Amber Washington hit threes in the closing minutes of the quarter.

Senior Tanasia Miles led the way for the Wildcats in the fourth quarter scoring five out of the Wildcats' nine points. Roberts had the remaining four points for the Wildcats in the quarter. Miles hit a three-pointer from an assist by Washington with 2:51 to play. Miles then put in the Wildcat's last basket of the game with a layup from Azayah Garrison with 1:57 to play.

The Wildcats were led by Jade Roberts' nine points, as she also added five rebounds and two assists. Fatou Ndao grabbed a game-high ten rebounds and finished with eight points.

The Wildcats will be on the road for their final two away games of the year starting with a trip to Lakewood, New Jersey, to take on Georgian Court at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 18.
