
NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's basketball team hung around with nationally ranked No. 18 Holy Family through the first half of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Wednesday night before the Tigers ultimately pulled away for a 78-46 victory at the WU Athletics Complex.
Aniyah Bond converted a three-point play to bring the Wildcats (0-17, 0-6 CACC) to within seven points, 25-18, with 4:43 to play in the second quarter. The Tigers (15-3, 7-0 CACC) scored the final 13 points of the quarter and the first seven points of the third quarter to pull away and stay undefeated in conference play.
TyKeisha Hill gave the Wildcats a pair of early leads, sinking both free throws to take a 4-2 lead and then putting in a layup to go up 6-4. The Tigers used an 8-0 run to lead 12-6 before Armani Bell-Jackson put in an offensive board to bring the Wildcats to within 12-8. The Tigers scored the final five points of the quarter, including a layup to beat the buzzer, to take a 17-8 lead into the second frame.
Emma Brown started the quarter with a layup to get within seven but the Tigers quickly extended the lead back out to 13 points. Jasmine McDuffie hit a three-pointer and Aniyah Bond converted the old fashioned three-point play to bring the Wildcats to within 25-17 with 4:43 showing on the clock. A floater and then a quick turnover and layup sparked the 20-point run for the Tigers, taking control of the contest. They led 38-18 at the halftime break and then as large as 45-18 before Bond hit a three-pointer to end the run.
Aniyah Bond scored seven of her team-high 12 points in the third quarter, adding seven rebounds. Jasmine McDuffie scored 10 points while adding five rebounds, three blocks, an assist, and a steal. TyKeisha Hill scored six points and grabbed five rebounds while Mya Nisbet scored seven points. Emma Brown added five points, four rebounds, and three assists as well. Armani Bell-Jackson had four steals in the game.
The Wildcats are home once more this week, as they host Bloomfield in a CACC cross divisional contest on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats and Bear are set for a 1:00 p.m. tip at the WU Athletics Complex.
