ALTOONA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team wrapped up its first three-day tournament on Sunday, winning the first match before dropping the final two, finishing in 16th place at the Red Flash Invite hosted by St. Francis (Pa.) at the Holiday Bowl.
Playing in positional round best-of-seven baker matches, the Wildcats came out with a 4-2 victory over PSU-Altoona to move them into the 13th and 14th place bracket. But a tight loss to New Jersey City University and a final loss to PSU-Altoona slipped the Wildcats back into 16th place for their first ever three-day tournament.
Trailing 2-1 in the best of seven to PSU-Altoona at the beginning of the day, the Wildcats came back with three straight victories to move up a bracket. The Wildcats outscored the Lions 136-123, 120-115, and 131-97, to close out the comeback and move on.
The Wildcats produced their best numbers of the weekend in the match against NJCU, but the Gothic Knights were too much for the Wildcats in taking the match, 4-0. Game scores for the match were 168-161, 160-145, 195-161, and 162-136.
Now playing for 15th place, the Wildcats dropped another close match, this time to PSU-Altoona to fall to 16th overall for the tournament. The Wildcats tied the match, 2-2, with a 167-127 win in the fourth game, but the Lions came back to win the fifth and sixth games to take the match.
The Wildcats went 4-8 overall on the weekend.
Host St. Francis won the Red Flash Invite, defeating Norfolk State University in the Championship Match, 4-2. Mount Aloysius College defeated Adelphi for third place while Duquesne took down Caldwell to round out the top five positions.
