Women’s Bowling Falls to Ninth to Conclude First Ever Wildcat DII/DII Invite

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team dropped a pair of matches but won the final game, 4-2, against Pitt-Bradford to finish ninth overall at its own 2017 Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Bowlerama.

The Wildcats started the day in seventh place, but dropped the first two matches to play for the ninth/tenth place spot in the final standings. The Wildcats defeated Pitt-Bradford, 4-2, to claim the ninth place spot in their first ever own tournament at Bowlerama.

Wilmington dropped the first match to LIU Post, 4-1, before falling to Belmont Abbey, 4-2, in the Baker best-of-seven match format on Sunday afternoon. Then, after dropping the first two Baker Matches to Pitt-Bradford, the Wildcats bounced back to win the final four matchups, en route to the 4-2 victory and the ninth place finish.

The Wildcats finished 5-8 in the tournament, finishing seventh overall with 11,031 total pin-fall in the three days. In 67 games played, the Wildcats averaged 164.6 pins per match, finishing seventh with a 164.6 pin-fall average per match.

In the Baker Matches on Sunday, the Wildcats produced their top two games against LIU Post in the opener, knocking down a day's high 205 pins in the third game against the Pioneers. But LIU Post won the game, 219-205, to move ahead, 3-0. They also knocked down 203 pins in the fourth game against the Pioneers, winning the game, 203-191, to force a fifth game.

Nationally ranked Adelphi took the tournament with a perfect 13-0 head-to-head record, knocking down 12,031 total pins for a 179.6 average. Kutztown finished 8-5 overall with a second place finish, averaging 177.7 pins per match in 69 games. Chestnut Hill rounded out the Top 3 teams with an 11-3 head-to-head record, knocking down an average of 173.3 pins per match.

Five student-athletes were named All-Tournament for their efforts on Saturday, led by Tournament MVP Rayissa Amon from Mount Aloysius for her 211.80 average in five traditional matches. Adelphi's McKenna Collier, Medaille's Morgan Walsh, Adelphia's Rebecca Gotterbarn, and Felician's Jessica Zalewski were also named All-Tournament for finishing in the Top 5 individually.

The Wildcats will take the Holiday Break to prepare for their next tournament starting January 12. They will head to the Fred and Edwina Underwood Lady Bulldogs Classic hosted by Bowie State University for another three-day tournament. The Wildcats will play in the three-day tournament at the AMF Laurel Lanes in Laurel, Maryland.
