TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Women’s Lacrosse earns No. 5 Seed for CACC Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - - Wrapping up their 2022 regular season as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's No. 5 seed, the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team finished with a 10-6 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the CACC. This year the Wildcats will square off against No. 4 Holy Family on Tuesday at Tiger Field under the lights at 7:00 p.m.

Scouting the No. 5 Wilmington University Wildcats:

The No. 5 Wildcats will face off against No. 4 Holy Family. The Wildcats comeback fell just short in their first matchup in the regular season exactly a week ago on April 19.  The Tigers won the narrow victory, 15-14, at Tiger Field. The Wildcats are 5-1 against the Tigers since the 2017 season. The last time the Wildcats saw the Tigers in the CACC Tournament was a year ago, where the Wildcats won the opening round matchup 25-10.

The Wildcats are led by senior attack, CACC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year, Taylor Lambeth's 93 points on the year, as she leads the CACC in points. Her 60 assists are first in the CACC and second nationally. Campbell Heller's (First-Team All-Conference) 69 goals ranks second in the CACC and sixth nationally. Maddie Day (Second Team All-Confernce) ranks 10th in the league in goals scored with 40. Ella Bayne's 37 goals puts her at 12th overall in the CACC. Mackenzie Stritzinger's (Second Team All- Conference) 28 goals have her tied for 20th.

The Wildcats two netminders, Tori Grubowski and Katie Vindigni (Second Team All-Conference) are side by side in total saves on the year. Grubowski is ranked 8th overall with 85 saves and Vindigni is ranked 9th with 81 saves. Vindigni leads all of the CACC in save percentage at 50.6 percent. Grubowski ranks third in the CACC with a save percentage of 46.7 percent. Combined the duo's save percentage tops the CACC at 48.5 percent.

On the defensive side, the Wildcats are led by sophomore Marisa Swanson, who was named to the First Team All-Conference team for her second year in a row. Swanson is tied for second in the CACC with 23 caused turnovers. Campbell Heller and Swanson lead the team in groundballs. Heller ranks tied-fifth in the CACC with 36 and Swanson ranks tied 13th with 31.

As a team, the Wildcats are fourth overall with 152 goals in CACC games and second overall with 97 caused turnovers in CACC games. They are ranked third with 91 assists in CACC play. The Wildcats are fifth in the country in assists per game, amongst all Division II schools. They are also ranked sixth in draw controls per game, and sixth in points per game nationally.
