Wildcats Blank Caldwell, 22-0, for Second Shutout of Season

CALDWELL, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team shut out its second opponent of the 2023 season, defeating Caldwell, 22-0, on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Essex Valley Field.

The Wildcats scored double-digit goals in the first quarter for the second game in a row, scoring 10 goals in the opening frame on Saturday. They then scored three goals in the second to lead, 13-0 at halftime, six in the third for a 19-0 lead after three, and three more in the fourth to close out the shutout, 22-0.

Ella Baynes, Maddie Day, and Ella Royer scored two goals in the first quarter while Amelie Gamache scored two goals and added an assist, with her goal with 20 seconds left put the Wildcats ahead, 10-0.

Keisha Baez got in on the scoring action with a goal from Gamache in the second quarter before Anastasia Giannoulis scored her second of the game with 3:29 left to cap the first half scoring, 13-0.

Lauren Gresham scored to start the third quarter while Maddie Day had a goal and an assist to complete her hat trick. Michaella Cook assisted on Amelie Gamache's goal to end the frame, giving Gamache four goals and two assists for a team-high six points.

Makenzie Stritzinger scored to start eh fourth before Ella Royer added two final goals in the fourth to make it 22-0.

Gamache led the way with her six points while adding three draw controls. Makenzie Stritzinger scored three goals to go with her nine draws. Ella Royer paced the offense with five goals while Maddie Day finished with three goals and an assist. Anastasia Giannoulis added a hat trick with three goals while Ella Baynes completed the Wildcats who scored multiple goals with two goals.

The Wildcats out-drew the Cougars, 17-7, which led to out-shooting the Cougars as well, 36-4. Wilmington was successful on 11-of-13 clears and converted 3-of-3 free position attempts. The Wildcats had a season-low eight turnovers in the victory.

Wilmington has a midweek bye but returns to action next Friday, March 31, at the WU Athletics Complex. They welcome Alliance to Newark with a 4:00 p.m. start for the team's Morgan's Message contest.
