Women’s Lacrosse Opens CACC Play with 25-6 Victory over Felician on Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. - - Eleven different Wilmington University women's lacrosse student-athletes scored a goal in the team's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opening victory against Felician, 25-6, on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Felician took a 3-2 lead with 10:53 to play in the first quarter but then the Wildcats scored seven straight and 12 of the final 13 goals of the first quarter, taking over the game and extending the lead out to 14-4.

The Wildcats (5-3, 1-0 CACC) outscored the Golden Falcons (3-4, 0-2 CACC), 14-4, in the first quarter, 4-0 in the second quarter, 4-1 in the third quarter, and 3-1 in the fourth quarter.

Tristan Holdsworth scored goals eight seconds apart to give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead. Michaella Cook scored 14 seconds later to make it three goals in 22 seconds to give the Wildcats a 6-3 lead. Anastasia Giannoulis and Holdsworth scored nine seconds apart to give the Wildcats an 8-3 lead. Ella Royer scored three of the final five goals to close out the first quarter.

Four different Wildcats scored in the second quarter as goals by Royer, Mia Schultz, Holdsworth, and Gia Boccio sent the Wildcats into the halftime break lead 18-4.

Four different Wildcats scored in the third quarter as well, highlighted by a breakaway goal falling to the ground by Sophie Shive. Royer, Maddy Trzaska and Michaella Coll all scored in the third as well.

Caitlyn Welker and Mia Bucs scored their first goals of the season in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats closed out the CACC opener with a 25-6 victory.

Ella Royer led the Wildcats with seven goals and four assists while Alea Javorowsky scored a goal and dished out a season's best nine assists. Tristan Holdsworth set a new career best with five goals. Mia Schultz had two goals and three assists while Michaella Cook added two goals and two assists. Gia Boccio and Anastasia Giannoulis added two goals and an assist each.

The Wildcats won the draw battle, 25-8, to keep possession leading to outshooting the Golden Falcons, 35-12.
