KANSAS CITY, Kan. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team was rewarded for its effort in the classroom during the 2010-11 season, as they were honored with a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Team Award last month.

The women posted a 3.14 team grade point average, putting them on a list of 572 women's teams that earned at least a 3.0 team GPA during the 2010-11 season. In all, 792 soccer teams across all three NCAA divisions were earned a team Academic Award with 161 schools being named to both the men's and women's lists.
The Wildcats finished 5-12-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference this past fall. The 'Cats were led by junior Penelope Fantis who tallied a team high seven goals and 14 points. Classmate Brittany Rhodes collected 10 points on four goals and two assists. Freshman Victoria Vasapolli led the team by dishing out four assists. The team returns all by one of its point scorers for the upcoming 2012 fall season, including both goalkeepers that saw action in 2011.
Wilmington was devastated by one goal goals, falling victim in seven separate contests during the year, including four one-goal games in the CACC. The lone lopsided game the Lady Wildcats suffered all season was at nationally top ranked University of Bridgeport on October 20.
Six other women's teams from the CACC were also honored with the award, as Bloomfield, Caldwell, Chestnut Hill, Georgian Court, Goldey-Beacom, and Holy Family also posted a 3.0 GPA or better during the 2010-11 season.
