NEWARK, Del. - - Maegen Doyle scored three times in the second half to lead Bridgeport past the Wilmington University women's soccer team, 4-0, in its final nonconference contest of the season on Monday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

All four goals came in the second half for the Purple Knights (7-3-1), as they were deadlocked with the Wildcats (6-8), 0-0, at the halftime break.

The visitors outshot the Wildcats, 11-3, in the first half, but the Wildcats' three shots came from great chances. The first shot came off a corner in the 24th minute with the game still scoreless. Cassidy McErlain headed a ball down on the back post, but the attempt was blocked right in front of the goal and cleared away.

Jasmine Brake had back-to-back blasts from inside the box in the 37th minute, but neither were able to reach the goal as they were blocked away as well. Wilmington had two corners in the first half, compared to the Purple Knights' zero.

Wilmington came out of the break and put early pressure on the Purple Knights, getting another shot from Cassidy McErlain and two corners from Rebecca Dolhansky.

But it was Bridgeport that struck first.

Maegen Doyle's first touch turn freed her inside the18-yard box and her shot from the right side went off the far post and in, beating Kate Tubo or the 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.

The Purple Knights didn't let down, scoring again in the 61st minute on a cross and tap in go, the 65th minute on a penalty kick, and Doyle finished off her hat trick in the 69th minute off a misclear by WilmU defense.

The Wildcats were outshot, 19-5, in the match but earned more corners, 6-3. Tubo made six saves in goal for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action with their next contest, as they welcome Bloomfield to the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon. The women kick off a soccer doubleheader with an expected start time of 12:00 p.m.
