NEWARK, Del. - - Chestnut Hill scored just 17 seconds after the Wilmington University's women's soccer team's lone tally as the two played to a 1-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference draw on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

The tie extends the Wildcats (7-2-3, 5-1-1 CACC) unbeaten streak to six consecutive games, but the first tie in the stretch. The Wildcats remain in second place in the CACC with 16 points.

The Griffins (4-4-2, 3-2-1 CACC) came out of the gates and poured in three shots in the first 22 minutes, but then the Wildcats stole the momentum in the final 20 minutes of the half. Manuela Restrepo had three shots in a six-minute span the third being blocked but bouncing right to Amelia Aquino in the 34th minute. But she sailed one over the bar and the game went scoreless into the half.

The Wildcats started the second half with momentum, but it didn't pay off until the 78th minute. Evelyn Payne worked around a pair of defenders down the right side, getting all the way to the endline. She sent it across and back to the six-yard line where Manuela Restrepo came crashing in to redirect it home for her CACC leading ninth goal of the year and the 1-0 lead.

But Chestnut Hill answered right back, sending the restart into the corner. Rebecca Dalton kept the ball from going over the endline and crossed it into the box. She found Payton Lennon who headed it home just 17 seconds after Wilmington took the lead.

Alyssa Ruggeri had the best chance for the Wildcats towards the end of the game, one-timing a bouncing ball at the top of the box in the 86th minute. But Griffin keeper Ellie Stratz got a piece of it to steer it wide.

The Wildcats led the Griffins in shots, 16-8, and corners, 6-4, but Stratz came up with five saves in the game.

Wilmington steps out of the CACC for the final time in its next game, as the Wildcats go to Mercy on Thursday. The Wildcats and Mavericks will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
