PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team secured a third place finish and No. 3 seed in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 7-2 victory at Jefferson on Saturday afternoon at the Abraham J. Salaman tennis Courts.

The win is the sixth consecutive for the Wildcats (8-5, 6-2 CACC), not having lost since Sunday, October 1 against Concordia. The team wrapped up the third seed for the CACC Tournament and will host sixth seeded Post on Tuesday at Delcastle Tennis Center for a first round matchup.

The number two and three doubles helped set up the victory for the Wildcats, as they came out with a 2-1 lead before the singles matches. Begona Gomar and Anushka Sathe won, 8-1, at number two while Jane Malygina and Tess Paya won 8-2 at number three doubles.

The Wildcats nearly won all six singles matches for what would have been the fourth straight match, winning five of the six.

Gomar remained red-hot with a 6-1 and 6-1 win at number one singles while Jane Malygina remained perfect in singles play with a 6-4 and 6-1 victory at number three singles. Anushka Sathe staved off Millie Coombes in a second set tiebreaker to win 6-0 and 7-6 (7-5) at number four singles.

Andrea Ribalta continued her hot streak as well, winning 6-0 and 6-0 at number five singles. Tess Paya wrapped up the regular season ending victory with a 6-2 and 6-0 victory at number six singles.

Laura Gil fell, 6-4, in the first set before retiring in the second at number two singles, giving Jefferson the only win during singles.

The Wildcats recently traveled to Post on Thursday and came away with an 8-1 victory. The Eagles defeated the Wildcats last year in the CACC Tournament Semifinals.

First serve on Tuesday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
