NEWARK, Del. - - The College of Staten Island jumped out to a large lead and never looked back, defeating the Wilmington University women's basketball team, 76-38, on Wednesday night inside the WU Athletics Complex.
The Dolphins (3-2) used a 35-5 first quarter to set the tone on Wednesday night. But after the first quarter, the Wildcats (0-5) played the Dolphins within a 41-33 ballgame, including 31-27 in the second half.
The Dolphins scored the first six points of the game and then another 7-0 run to grab a 13-1 lead. The visitors then extended their lead out to 28 points with an 18-0 run, 31-3 and ended the first quarter by leading 35-5.
TyKeisha Hill scored four points in the second quarter while Arman-Bell Jackson added a field goal as the Dolphins won the second quarter as well, 10-6, to take a 45-11 lead into the locker room.
Jasmine McDuffie and Mya Nisbet scored four points each for the Wildcats in the third quarter, as Mya Nisbet hit the lone three-pointer of the game in the frame for the Wildcats. Jasmine McDuffie then led the Wildcats with five points int eh fourth quarter while TyKeisha Hill secured five rebounds and picked up a pair of blocks. The Wildcats shot a night's best 46.2 percent from the field in the fourth quarter.
Jasmine McDuffie led the Wildcats with 10 points and six rebounds while TyKeisha Hill scored nine points while securing 14 rebounds and collecting four blocked shots. Armani-Bell Jackson came off the bench to score eight points while Mya Nisbet added six points.
The Dolphins won the battle in the paint, 42-18, and on the break, 17-0, scoring 21 points off 24 Wilmington turnovers.
The Wildcats have the weekend off before returning to action next Tuesday night at the WU Athletics Complex. The women welcome Queens to Newark for another nonconference game. The opening tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
