
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - In its first action of the 2018 spring season, the Wilmington University women's tennis team went on the road and swept Millersville, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at the McComsey Tennis Courts.
With the nonconference win, the Wildcats improved to 11-6 overall on the season.
The closest match of the day came in the doubles events, as Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta battled at number one doubles. With the Wildcats already leading 2-0, Gil and Ribalta gave the Wildcats the 3-0 lead with a tough 8-6 victory at number one doubles.
Tess Paya was the first to finish in the singles events, winning at number six singles, 6-1 and 6-0. Laura Gil quickly followed with a sweep at number two singles, 6-1 and 6-0.
Jane Malygina earned the victory at number three singles by set scores of 6-1 and 6-1 before Andrea Ribalts kept the winning going for the Wildcats with a 6-1, 6-0 sweep at number five singles.
Anushka Sathe didn't give up a point at number four singles, giving the Wildcats an 8-0 lead with a 6-0 and 6-0 sweep. Begona Gomar closed out the sweep with the match of the day at number one singles, winning in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
The Wildcats have a quick turnaround for their next spring matches, as they head to Stow, Ohio to compete at the Latuchie Tennis Center against teams from Michigan. They will square off against Wayne State (Michigan) on Saturday before battling nationally #22 Grand Valley State on Sunday.
