Neus Ramos Moreno and Troy Donato Pick up Major Awards as Women’s Tennis Earn Four on All-CACC Teams

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Following an unprecedented regular season, the Wilmington University women's tennis team was rewarded with four All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members, in addition to Neus Ramos Moreno being named the CACC Player of the Year and head coach Troy Donato being named the CACC Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Neus Ramos Moreno (Denia, Spain) was also named First Team All-CACC in her first year as a Wildcat while graduate student Begona Gomar (Valencia, Spain), and sophomores Valentina Ivankovic (Oberndorf bei Sbg, Austria), and Jess Purdy (Wilmslow, England) were named Second Team All-CACC by the league's seven head coaches.

The Wildcats went 6-0 in CACC play, winning the 2021 CACC Regular Season Championship and earning the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament, hosted by the Wildcats at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

Neus Ramos Moreno went 5-1 in singles matches this fall, 3-0 at No. 1, 1-1 at No. 2, and 1-0, at No. 3. Her only loss came to the CACC Rookie of the Year Charlotte Kordonowy from USciences. She also advanced to the 2021 ITA East Regional Championship match to begin the season. She also teamed up with Jess Purdy to go 4-0 at No. 1 doubles, adding three more wins at No. 1 doubles with different combinations, finishing a perfect 7-0 in the fall.

Begona Gomar is no stranger to All-CACC selections, as she was a First Team performer in her previous three seasons. Her numbers stacked up again this fall, going 6-1 in singles, and 1-0 in doubles play. Gomar went 1-0 at No. 2 singles, 3-1 at No. 3 singles, and 2-0 at No. 4 singles this season. She partnered with Larize Nel to defeat USciences at No. 3 doubles in her lone doubles appearance this year.

Valentina Ivankovis has been named Second Team All-CACC for the first time in her career, going a perfect 7-0 in singles competition and 5-1 in doubles. The sophomore went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, 1-0 at No. 3 singles, and 4-0 at No. 3 singles this fall. She's teamed up with Marley Trifunovic the most in doubles, going 3-1 at No. 2 doubles. She also won her lone doubles match at No. 1 with Neus Ramos Moreno, and with Jess Purdy at No. 2.

Jess Purdy also earned Second Team All-CACC in her first season with the Wildcats. She went 5-2 in dual matches this fall, going 3-1 at No. 1, 1-1 at No. 2, and 1-0 at No. 3 singles. She went a perfect 6-0 in doubles play this fall, teaming up the most with Neus Ramos Moreno to go 4-0 at No. 1 doubles. She also won with Valentina Ivankovic and Marley Trifunovic at No. 2 doubles.

In his first full season as head coach of the Wildcats, Troy Donato was named the CACC Coach of the Year in a vote of the league's sports information directors.

The All-Conference performers will be honored at the CACC's banquet on Thursday night, leading up to the CACC Tournament Semifinals on Friday at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The Wildcats are scheduled to play fourth seeded Chestnut Hill on Friday at 10:00 a.m.
