Valentina Ivankovic Wins Two Matches on Senior Day as Women’s Tennis Clinches CACC Regular Season Title

WILMINGTON, Del. - - For the second year in a row, the Wilmington University women's tennis team can call itself the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season Champions, as they clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament with a 4-3 comeback victory over Chestnut Hill on Saturday at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

Wilmington celebrated Senior Day on Saturday as well, honoring Valentina Ivankovic who is graduating following the fall semester. Following today, Valentina Ivankovic is 27-1 overall in singles and 18-5 in doubles for her career. She has the best singles winning percentage of any Wildcat ever (.964).

The Wildcats (9-0, 9-0 CACC) needed to come back from down a point on Saturday, as Chestnut Hill came out of the gates and won the doubles point. Fenna Swaan and Valentina Ivankovic started the doubles match off with a 6-2 win at No. 3, but then the Griffins won, 6-3, at No. 1, and won a close match at No. 2, 7-5, to earn the point.

Carmelle Vial tied the match with a quick 6-3 and 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, and then Valentina Ivankovic put the Wildcats ahead with a 6-3 and 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Chestnut Hill tied the match at 2-2 with a win at No. 5 singles, but then Neus Ramos Moreno brought the Wildcats to within a point of the team win with a 6-4 and 6-1 win at No. 2. Fenna Swaan then came up big with the match closing point at No. 6, defeating her opponent, 6-3 and 6-4.

The Wildcats will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament, hosted by Wilmington University and Goldey-Beacom College at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The Wildcats are the reigning CACC Champions as well.

Before then, the Wildcats will close out the 2022 regular season with one final CACC match at Dominican on Tuesday. The first serve is slated for 3:00 p.m.
