Wildcats Remain Unbeaten With Blanking of Millersville, 7-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team remains unbeaten through their second match of the spring, defeating Millersville, 7-0, on the road on Tuesday afternoon at McComsey Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 23 in last week's Division II ITA National Rankings, won all three doubles matches and then swept all six singles matches in straight sets.

The combination of Larize Nel and Alva Norberg started the Wildcats off on the right foot with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Then the 34th ranked duo of Jess Purdy and Neus Ramos Moreno won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, to give the Wildcats the point. Marley Trifunovic and Maelle Fontanges completed the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

The sweeping action continued into the singles events as Fenna Swaan started the Wildcats with a 6-1 and 6-0 sweep at No. 6 singles. Larize Nel was walking off the No. 5 court shortly after Swaan with an identical score of 6-1 and 6-0, to make it 3-0 Wildcats before Carmelle Vial gave the Wildcats the match, 4-0, with a 6-3 and 6-1 straight set victory at No. 1 singles.

Marley Trifunovic kept the momentum in Wilmington's corner with a 6-3 and 6-3 win at No. 4 singles while Neus Ramos Moreno made it 6-0 with a 6-2 and 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Maelle Fontanges gave the Wildcats the clean sheet with a 6-2 and 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.

The Wildcats play their next four matches at home, starting with a pair next week. They welcome West Chester to the Delcastle Tennis Center on Tuesday with the first serve set for 2:00 p.m.
