WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team advanced to its fourth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship match with a 4-0 sweep over No. 4 Jefferson on Saturday morning at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
The top seeded Wildcats (11-0) balanced depth was on display on Saturday, defeating Jefferson for the third time this season. They won the first four matches but were also leading in all unfinished matches as well.
Molly Carlberg and Gloria Barcaro started the morning off with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and then Kushi Khandoji and Siana MacDonald sealed the point with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Kushi Khandoji extended her strong fall season into the postseason with a 6-0 and 6-0 sweep at No. 5 singles. Freshman Molly Carlberg then brought the Wildcats to within a point of the victory with a 6-2 and 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over the CACC Rookie of the Year Alycia Veroux. Gloria Barcaro then sent the team into celebration on Court 6, winning, 6-2 and 6-1, to give the Wildcats the clean sweep, 4-0.
Siana MacDonald took the first set, 6-3, at No. 2 singles while Liza Sylka won the first set, 6-0, and was up 5-1 in the second at No. 3 when the match was called. Ming-Fu Chen was leading, 6-4 and 2-1, at No. 4 singles as well.
In the other semifinal, No. 3 Chestnut Hill upset No. 2 Goldey-Beacom, 4-1, to complete the CACC Tournament Championship matchup on Sunday.
A champion will be crowned on Sunday with the first serve set for 12:00 p.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
