
NEWARK, Del. - - The NCAA Women's Tennis Committee announced its field of five to compete in the East Regional Tournament and the Wilmington University women's tennis team was seeded third and will host No. 2 Queens at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
It is the fifth regional appearance for the Wildcats in program history. Wilmington started the program in fall 2016.
The lone match will take place on Tuesday, May 13, at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The winner will advance and be one of the final 16 teams to compete in the NCAA DII Women's Tennis National Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
In the other half of the East Bracket, No. 1 seed and host New Haven earned a bye and will await the winner of No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas and No. 5 Adelphi. The winner of the East Region 1 Bracket will also advance to Altamonte Springs and be one of the final 16 teams remaining. Two teams from each region will advance to the Final 16.
The Wildcats come into Regional play with a 17-4 overall record, winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships for the fourth year in a row.
Queens comes into Regional play with a 9-5 record, winning the East Coast Conference Tournament Championship for the 10th time in program history.
These two teams met on March 26 in Flushing, New York, with the Knights defeating the Wildcats, 7-0.
The first serve on Tuesday, May 13, at the Delcastle Tennis Center is set for 12:00 p.m.
