Volleyball Cruises Past Bloomfield, 3-0, Saturday Afternoon

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Wilmington University women's volleyball team secured its third straight CACC win over Bloomfield in a 3-0 sweep Saturday afternoon at Bloomfield Gym.

The Wildcats started the match off of two Bloomfield errors to kick start their 3-0 victory. WIlmU had a 17-11 lead before the Bears stole four straight points to try and take the first set, but Wilmington stayed ahead to take the set, 25-17.

To start the second set, Wilmington went on three runs that consisted of three points each to make it a 9-4 game. Their largest run in the set started off a kill by Mandy Behiels, which led to six consecutive points to give the Wildcats a 16-8 lead. Behiels also ended the set on a kill courtesy of Caroline Wise.

The Wildcats did not look back as they started the third set off 8-0, and would go on to secure the final set, 25-16. They had 13 kills for a .273 hitting percentage in the final set, compared to the Bears' .054 hitting percentage.

Mandy Behiels led the team with 12 kills and seven digs. Rebecca Rawlinson added nine kills, while not committing an error on 18 swings, and three block solos, while fellow middle hitter Angel Oliver posted seven kills on nine attacks, for a .667 hitting percentage.

Miranda Shaw dished out 15 assists and eight digs, as Jill Braunsberg added 12 assists, six kills, and seven digs.

The Wildcats out-hit the Bears 40-28, and out-dug them, 52-41.

Up next, WilmU will host crosstown rival Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. matchup, before heading up to Dominican Friday night.
