NEWARK, Del. – The Wilmington University volleyball team downed Concordia 3-0 Saturday afternoon in a cross-division Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup at the WU Athletics Complex for Senior Day.
Set scores for the Wildcats were 25-19, 25-20, and 25-16.
Before the game, seniors Brittany Ford, Miranda Shaw, and Jenna Brown were honored by the Wildcats in their last home game of the regular season for Senior Day.
The Wildcats (18-11, 12-5 CACC) out-hit the Clippers (1-20, 1-16 CACC) 44-25 in the match to help them cruise to the 3-0 victory.
The Clippers got out-front in the first set, 6-2, before the Wildcats tied it up at 6-6 on a Mandy Behiels kill. WilmU would slowly chip away forcing Concordia to take two timeouts after a Rebecca Rawlinson service ace gave Wilmington a 21-13 lead. Concordia held on for a moment, but the Wildcats would take the set, 25-19.
It was a 7-7 game in the second set until Mandy Behiels' kill off the Clippers block started a 7-0 run for the Wildcats. As Wilmington tried to increase their lead, Concordia slowly came back, saving four set points before Rebecca Rawlinson got the kill to end the set, 25-20. The Wildcats had a .394 hitting percentage with 15 kills in the second set.
WilmU started the third set leading, 5-1, before the Clippers came within one to make it a 5-4 game. A Jill Braunsberg cross-court kill would start a 4-0 run for the Wildcats to slowly break-away from the Clippers. The Wildcats jumped out to a 20-10 lead for their biggest lead of the match, thanks to a Genevieve Hughes' ace. Wilmington would go on to take the third and final set, 25-16.
Mandy Behiels led the Wildcats with 10 kills, as Rebecca Rawlinson added eight kills and three block assists. Jill Braunsberg recorded eight kills and dished out 14 assists.
Miranda Shaw recorded a double-double in the match with 20 assists and 12 digs, while fellow seniors, Jenna Brown and Brittany Ford added 17 and nine digs, respectively.
The Wildcats out-hit the Clippers with a .238 hitting percentage to Concordia's .093. WilmU also out-blocked their opponent, 7-3.
