ROCHESTER, N.Y. - - Three Wildcats earned All-Region honors as the Wilmington University cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships today on the Matt St. James Cross Country Course. The men finished seventh overall while the women placed 14th.
The men earned 228 points to finish seventh overall, their best finish since 2018 when they placed sixth overall. The women earned 357 points to finish 14th overall, earning an All-American runner for the first time since 2012.
The men were off first on Saturday morning and they were led by a pair of All-Region performances from Trent Taylor and Dan Wyshinski. Taylor finished a personal best 12th overall at the Regional Championship, becoming a three-time All-Region performer for the Wildcats. He finished with a 10k time of 32:04.9. Wyshinski earned All-Region for the first time in his career with a 17th place finish on Saturday, running the course in 32:13.3. They were the second and third members from the CACC to cross the line, behind only Caldwell's Joey Datta in second place.
Carter Sparwasser finished 55th overall for the Wildcats, crossing the line in 33:40.3. Chris Nelson was the fourth Wildcat to cross, finishing in 65th overall with a time of 33:59.6. Joe Volk concluded the Wildcat scoring, placing 99th overall with a time of 35:18.0.
Braeden Peterson crossed the line in 114th overall with a time of 36:24.5 while Hayward Boutte wrapped up the Wildcats on the course with a 134th place finish with a time of 39:10.4.
Southern Connecticut State won the Regional Championship with a score of 54 points while Roberts Wesleyan (65 points) and Bentley (126 pts) also earned trips to the National Championships. The Wildcats were the top team from the CACC, with Caldwell finishing 9th overall and Jefferson placing 15th.
The women followed on Saturday and they were led by Tiffany Banning's All-Region performance. Banning raced to a 25th place finish, running the 6k course in 22:55.9. She becomes the first Lady Wildcat to earn All-Region since Althea Davidson in 2012. She was the second runner from the CACC to finish, behind only Jefferson's Annalee Capuano in 14th place.
Sammy Banning was the second Wildcat to cross the line, finishing in 62nd overall with a time of 24:30.3. Amy Chomo placed 82nd overall, finishing the 6K in 25:09.2 while Angie Chomo came in 92nd place with a time of 25:33.3. Abby Chomo was the final scorer for the Wildcats on Saturday, placing 108th overall with a time of 26:20.7.
Maddie Minnick was the sixth finisher for the Wildcats in 115th place with a time of 26:50.6 while Claudia Rodriguez wrapped up the Wildcats on the course with a 123rd place finish in 28:03.0.
Roberts Wesleyan won the East Regional Championship with 71 points while Southern Connecticut State (107 pts) and Daemen (118 pts) also earned trips to the National Championships. The Wildcats were the second CACC team in the standings, behind only Jefferson who placed sixth.
