Head Coach Brian August Captures 600th Career Win as Baseball Sweeps Georgian Court

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - Head coach Brian August captured his 600th career victory on Wednesday as the Wilmington University baseball team swept Georgian Court, 10-4 and 9-2, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at Wilson Field.

Wednesday was the first-ever matchup between the two programs as Georgian Court started the sport this season.

Head coach Brian August is in his 21st season at the helm of the Wildcats and is now 601-388-2 overall, good enough for a .607 winning percentage. He is the only coach in the Wildcats NCAA era, starting in 2005.

GAME 1:
John Klepacki gave four strong innings to allow the offense to come through on the second time through the lineup. The offense scored two in the third, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to distance itself from the Lions.

Garrett Quinn started the third inning with a leadoff single, and then Brandon Grygo hit a hard single into center to break the ice. Now with the bases loaded, Josearmando Diaz was hit by a pitch to force in a run.

Kory Pritchard hit an RBI single in the fourth as the Wildcats scored three runs on two hits and two Georgian Court errors to take a 5-0 lead. Cam Trego answered a GCU homer with a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the fifth. CJ Nocella added an RBI groundout in the inning to make it 7-1.

Brandon Grygo hit a long, two-out, two-run homer to right in the seventh, and then Josearmando Diaz hit a screaming homer down the right field line in the eighth to complete the Wildcat scoring.

Brandon Grygo went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while CJ Nocella went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and three stolen bases. Cam Trego went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

After Klepacki's four scoreless innings, Xavier Cortez pitched the fifth with two strikeouts to earn the win. Tyler Reinert and Dom Marotta pitched scoreless innings in the win.

GAME 2:
A six-run third inning gave the Wildcats all the support they needed, as they completed the CACC sweep with a 9-2 win.

Zach Rosenzweig picked up his first career RBI with a two-out RBI single in the first, as his day was just getting started. Tristan Schoendienst hit a two-out RBI double in the second as well, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

After throwing out a runner in the top of the third, Rosenzweig then launched his first career homer in the home half, a two-run shot to left for the 5-0 lead. Josearmando Diaz doubles in a run and then Shawn Edevane hits a second two-run homer in the inning, making it an 8-0 lead.

Rosenzweig added an RBI double to center in the bottom of the sixth as well, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

Garrett Quinn tossed the first two scoreless innings before turning it over to Scott Borgmann, who finished the game. He allowed two runs on two hits and had two strikeouts to move to 5-2 on the year.

Rosenzweig finished 3-for-4 with four RBI while CJ Nocella went 3-for-3 with another stolen base and two runs scored. Shawn Edevane went 2-for-2 with two RBI while Kody Clausius picked up two hits off the bench as well.

The Wildcats have a key series against crosstown rival Goldey-Beacom this weekend, starting on Saturday at Wilson Field. The first pitch of Senior Day is slated for 12:00 p.m. in New Castle, Delaware.
