Freddy Braun Captures Medalist Honors as Wilmington Golf Wins GBC Spring Invite

OCEAN VIEW, Del. - - Senior Freddy Braun shot a 77 in the second round to capture individual honors while also leading the Wilmington University golf team to a team title at the GBC Spring Invite played at Bear Trap Dunes on Sunday.

The Wildcats posted a 304 on Sunday to win the two-day tournament by nine strokes, finishing with a 616. The team held off Dominican who shot a tournament best 303 on Sunday to close the gap. The Wildcats' second team finished third, posting a 305 on Sunday to finish with a two-day score of 630.

Braun' 77 was coupled with his first round score of 75 to finish with a 152, beating teammate Braden McKay who came on strong on Sunday to finish second. McKay shot a 71 on Sunday to only finish one stroke behind Braun with a 153 and lead the Wildcats' second team.

Ryan Rucinski shot 75 on Sunday, eight strokes better than his score of 83 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 15th with a 158. Seniors Troy Miller and Same Clark rounded out the Wildcats scoring on Sunday, posting identical scores of 76 in round two to finish in a tie for 5th overall. They both shot a 79-76 for a 155 total. Miguel Siercke shot a 77 on Sunday, finishing with a 79-77 for a 156, placing n a tie for 11th overall.

On the Wildcats' second team, McKay led all scorers with his 71 while Zach Moore shot a 77 in round two. Moore finished with an 80-77 for a 157, placing 14th overall. Matthew Kettleson shot a 78 on Sunday to finish with a 159, placing 18th overall. Joey Russo rounded out the Wildcats scoring on Sunday with a 79, placing in a tie for 19th overall with a 162 tournament score. Jack Dixon was the final Wildcat on the course, shooting an 85 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 25th overall with a 167.

Host Goldey-Beacom finished fourth overall with a 640 followed by Felician in fifth with a 663. Adelphi shot a 708 while Nyack posted a 727 to round out the tournament.

The Wildcats will take a few weeks off before returning to action on Monday, April 3 at the Battle at the Shores Tournament in Miami Beach, Fla. The two-day tournament is hosted by Barry University at the Normandy Shores Golf Course.
