
BOWIE, Md. - - Bowie State used a big third quarter to pull away from the Wilmington University women's basketball team, 102-67, on Monday night at the A.C. Jordan Area in nonconference action.
The Wildcats (0-10) scored a season-high 67 points on Monday night, getting three student-athletes into double figures. But the Bulldogs (8-4) came out of the halftime break and scored 47 points in the third quarter to pull away. The Wildcats won the fourth quarter, 19-11, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
Mya Nisbet and Aniyah Bond hit three-pointers to give the Wildcats early leads, 3-0, and 6-3. Nisbet hit another three-pointer to give the Wildcats an 11-10 lead midway through the first frame, but the Bulldogs rattled off the next 10 points to grab a 20-11 lead with 2:55 to play. Nisbet hit another three-pointer to pull the Wildcats to within eight, 22-14, before the home team scored the final three points of the quarte rot lead, 25-14.
Mya Nisbet remained hot from the start and hit another three-pointer to start the second quarter, but the Wildcats couldn't put together run to close the gap. The game remained within a 10-point margin as Jasmine McDuffie hit a three-pointer to bring the Wildcats to within 35-26 with 4:13 to play. The Bulldogs used a 9-4 run to end the half, taking a 44-30 lead into the halftime break. Nisbet went 4-for-5 from deep in the first half.
Bowie State came out of the break and used a 16-2 run to break away from the Wildcats. Another 10-0 run gave the Bulldogs a 38-point lead as they went on to win the third quarter, 47-18, to lead 91-48. They scored 27 points off 16 Wilmington turnovers in the frame.
Emma Brown scored five points in the fourth quarter while Mya Nisbet and Jasmine McDuffie added four points each as the Wildcats won the fourth quarter, 19-11.
Mya Nisbet went 5-for-8 from deep for the game and tied for the team-high with 16 points, adding five rebounds and three steals. Jasmine McDuffie went 11-of-12 from the foul line, scoring 16 points while adding seven rebounds and three assists. Aniyah Bond scored 14 points while hitting three three-pointers, adding a team0high eight rebounds. TyKeisha Hill grabbed seven boards as well.
Monday was the final road game of the semester for the Wildcats, as they are now home for three straight heading into the Holiday Break. They start with Cheyney on Wednesday night at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
