Golf Places 13th at Super Regional Preview; Cleaves and Pulgini Tie for 14th in Final Regular Season Tournament

LEBANON, Pa. - - Getting a lay of the land at the Iron Valley Golf Club, the Wilmington University golf team finished 13th out of 25 teams at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Preview earlier this week.

Despite finishing in the middle of the pack with rounds of 309 and 311 for a 620 (+44), the Wildcats were only 10 strokes from the Top 5 in the tournament. Gannon won the Preview with rounds of 3-1 and 295 for a 596 (+20) followed by St. Thomas Aquinas' 597 (+21) in second place.

Out of 133 golfers, the Wildcats' Matthew Pulgini and Tyler Cleaves tied for 14th overall with identical scores of 150 (+6). Pulgini went like rounds of 75 to reach his 150 while Cleaves shot rounds of 73 and 77 for his 150. The duo was tied for 10th in the tournament in Par 4 Scoring, finished +4 (4.20 average) on all the par four holes. Cleaves was also tied for seventh in the tournament on Par 3 Scoring, finishing a combined +1 (3.13 avg.) on all the par three holes in the two rounds. Pulgini made up ground on the Par 5 holes, finishing tied for 15th at -3 (4.63 avg.) in Par 5 Scoring.

Nathan Potts moved up 25 spots with his second round, shooting rounds of 82-77 for a 159 (+15) to finish in a tie for 70th overall. He was also tied for 15th overall on Par 5 Scoring, finishing at -3 (4.63 avg.) in the two rounds.

Pablo Quintero finished in a tie for 88th overall with rounds of 79-82 for a 161 (+17) while Blake Ramirez rounded out the Wildcats on the score in 126th place, shooting rounds of 89-83 for a 172 (+28).

This tournament concludes the regular season for the Wildcats, while they now await the NCAA Selection Show announcement to see if they made the field for the Super Regional Tournament. The Top 10 teams from the East, combined with the Top 10 teams from the Atlantic, will play in the Super Regional Tournament. The Wildcats were ranked 8th in the East in the most recent NCAA Regional Rankings.
