NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Spring Break produced a lot of results for the Wilmington University athletics department last week, but three individuals shined for the Wildcats, as Logan Stinson, Noah Given, and Matt Warrington were all named on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Reports, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Logan Stinson and Noah Given helped the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, defeating Chowan and St. Thomas Aquinas. Stinson was named the CACC Player and Rookie of the Week while Noah Given was named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week.
Matt Warrington was a duel threat for the Wildcats on the diamond during Spring Break, being named a CACC Co-Rookie of the Week for the first time in his career.
It is the second this this season the Stinson has been named on the Weekly Report, earning CACC Rookie of the Week on February 24. It is the first time he has been named the CACC Player of the week, however. In two games last week, Stinson scored nine goals and added two assists for a team high 11 points. He scored a game high five goals in a 12-11 win at Chowan and then scored four goals to go with two assists in a 14-9 win against St. Thomas Aquinas. He also chipped in with three ground balls in each game. Stinson's 18 goals rank third in the CACC while he is tied for fourth overall with 24 points on the year.
It is also the second time Noah Given has been named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, earning the award on February 24. In two wins this week, he has a .524 save percentage and carried a 10.00 goals against average. He made 12 saves in a 12-11 win at Chowan, including five in the third quarter alone. He made 10 stops in a 14-9 win against St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, including three in the third quarter when the Wildcats made their move. Given is third in the CACC with a .583 save percentage on the year, making 67 saves, and with a 9.85 goals against average.
Matt Warrington was a dual threat for the Wildcats, playing the left side of the infield in seven games while appearing on the mound twice during the team's trip to Florida. He started the week off with a 3-for-4 performance against Seton Hill while also batting 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBI against St. Cloud State. On the mound, he pitched six hitless innings with 12 strikeouts in a win against Saint Anselm, and then pitched two innings in relief with two strikeouts against Minnesota State Mankato. He struck out 14 in eight innings, only allowing three hits and one walk with a 1.13 ERA. He is tied for third in the CACC with 18 strikeouts.
Warrington was named the CACC Co-Rookie of the Week with Concordia's Noel Vasquez.
The men's lacrosse team is off until next Wednesday when they host St. Michael's while the baseball team heads to Shippensburg on Wednesday for a single contest.
