NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Helping her team stay atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings with a 5-1 week, Wilmington University softball pitcher Delani Sheehan has been named the CACC Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The Wildcats (28-10, 18-2 CACC) went 5-1 last week, splitting with Caldwell and then sweeping Bloomfield and Post over the weekend. The Wildcats are one-game ahead of Caldwell in the loss column for first place.
Delani Sheehan (New Castle, Del.) appeared in four of the games, making three starts. She only allowed one run in 18 innings, striking out 19 batters while going 2-0 with a 0.39 earned run average. She only allowed 11 hits and three walks in her outings.
Her week started with a start in game one against Caldwell. She only went two innings, but allowed only one run on three hits. She then came off the bench in game two against the Cougars, pitching the final four innings while striking out three and only allowing one hit in a scoreless outing. She started game one at Bloomfield on Saturday, tossing five innings while picking up six strikeouts in another scoreless outing. She saved the best for last with a complete game shutout against Post, striking out nine Eagles in 4-0 victory while not walking a batter and only allowing three hits. She earned wins at Bloomfield and Post.
Sheehan's teammate Lexi Moore was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll after leading the offense with a .565 batting average (13-for-23). Women's lacrosse's Maddie Day scored 10 goals in two games to be named to the Weekly Honor Holl while her teammate Ella Royer also contributed 10 points in two games to make the Weekly Honor Roll.
Delani Sheehan and the softball team travel to Holy Family on Tuesday, Bridgeport on Saturday, and Molloy on Sunday.
