Three WilmU Softball Wildcats Earn All-American Status Among Two Organizations

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - - A trio of Wilmington University softball student-athletes have been named All-Americans in a pair of organizations, with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announcing the teams at the NCAA Division II National Banquet tonight at the Tennessee Aquarium.

Junior shortstop Lexi Moore and sophomore outfielder Taylor Gillis have been named NFCA Third Team All-Americans while junior utility player Sara Miller has been named a D2CCA Third Team All-American.

Lexi Moore (Dover, Del.) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year. She is hitting .446 with the sixth most hits in all of NCAA DII with 86. She is also 13th in NCAA DII with 40 stolen bases, after getting on base at a .465 clip. The shortstop has hit nine doubles, three triples, and a homer on the year, scoring a team high 57 runs while bringing in 21 runners as well. Moore enters the NCAA DII Softball Championships with a .446/.465/.539 slash line.

Taylor Gillis (Hockessin, Del.) was a First Team All-CACC and unanimous First Team All-Region selection as the team's centerfielder and leadoff hitter. She is hitting .411 on the year with 13 doubles, a triple, and four homers. She is second on the team with 39 RBI, scoring 50 more. Gillis' 74 hits this year rank 29th in NCAA DII. She enters the NCAA DII Softball Championships with a .411/.451/.561 slash line for a 1.012 OPS.

Sara Miller (Clayton, Del.) is the lone Wildcat voted to the D2CCA All-American Teams, voted on the country's college sports communicators. She ranks 10th in all of NCAA DII with 64 RBI, setting a new Wilmington single season program record. She is also 66th in the country with 113 total bases, hitting 12 doubles, three triples, and a tying a WIlmU single season program record with 10 homers. She enters the NCAA DII Softball Championships with a .365/.400/.635 slash line for a 1.035 OPS.

It is the first time in program history the Wildcats earn multiple All-Americans in one season, as Moore, Gillis, and Miller are the sixth, seventh, and eighth All-Americans in program history (six individuals total as Rosa'Lynn Burton was a three-time All-American).

The trio lead the Wildcats into the NCAA DII National Softball Championship as the No. 4 seed starting on Thursday against No. 5 Grand Valley State. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
