Bloomfield Leads Wire-to-Wire in 76-49 Women’s Basketball CACC Duel with Wilmington

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - - Freshman Tenicia Spence tallied 20 or more points for the 12th time this season, but Bloomfield led wire-to-wire in defeating Wilmington, 76-49, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball makeup game in Bloomfield Gym on Thursday evening.

Spence led all scorers with 23 points, marking the third straight game in which Spence was the game's leading scorer and third straight game scoring more than 20 points. The freshman was the only Wildcat (3-22, 1-17 CACC) to reach double figures with sophomore Cari Callaway tallying eight points off the bench. Taylor Carter added seven points on 3-for-5 shooting and Tashea Plummer grabbed a team high six rebounds.

The Wildcats could not find the bottom of the bucket in the first half, coming out and shooting 9-for-35 (25.7 percent) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Wilmington made one of six attempts from three-point territory while only making it to the charity stripe on three occasions. The team shot 22-for-70 for the game, with Spence hitting the only two three-pointers in the game for the Wildcats.

Bloomfield (12-13, 9-10 CACC) was led by three players in double figures, paced by Ivettlis Castro's 15 points off the bench. Iman Williams also came off the bench to tally 12 points while Nahja Carter was the only starter in double digits, scoring 10 points. Castro shot 4-for-9 from three-point land, leading the Deacons to a 4-for-11 performance from beyond the arc for the game. Tierra Scott grabbed a game high nine rebounds while Williams tallied eight boards.

The Deacons scored the first bucket of the game and never looked back, as the Wildcats could only cut the deficit to as little as three points after the five minute mark of the first half. Bloomfield took a 15 point lead into the halftime break before opening as large as a 29 point lead in the second half.

The Wildcats wrap up the 2012-13 season with their final game on Saturday, hosting Philadelphia at the WU Athletics Complex. Wilmington will honor its two seniors prior to the game, as Amanda Walters and Danielle Thomas play in their final game while donning the Green and White. The starting tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
