NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - After capturing its first share of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season Championship, the Wilmington University women's tennis team was rewarded with two student-athletes being named All-CACC while head coach Brad Rose was named the CACC Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office.
It is the second time in the program's third season that Brad Rose was named the CACC Coach of the Year, also winning the award in the program's first season in 2016. Junior Begona Gomar was voted to the 2018 All-CACC First Team while senior Anushka Sathe was voted to the 2018 All-CACC Second Team on Tuesday.
It is the third year that Gomar has been named First Team All-CACC, but has produced the best season of her career so far. Playing at No. 1 singles all season, the junior is 6-2 in CACC play, falling to only the CACC Player of the Year Lotte Lesscher Y Post from Goldey-Beacom and Second Team All-CACC performer Mia Covic from Chestnut Hill. Overall, she is 6-4 at No. 1 singles this fall I dual matches.
It is the first time in her career that Sathe has earned All-Conference. She went 7-1 in the CACC at No. 2 singles. He lone loss came to First Team All-CACC performer Catarina Zheng of Goldey-Beacom. She finished 7-3 overall at No. 2 singles, going 7-4 in dual matches and 7-5 in all singles matches played this fall.
Gomar and Sathe teamed up and played at No. 2 doubles all season, going 8-3 overall, but an amazing 7-1 in CACC play. Their lone doubles loss came to the pair of First Team All-CACC performers from Concordia.
Brad Rose was named the 2016 Coach of the Year after leading the team to a No. 2 seed in the CACC Tournament as a first year program, and has now led them to their first CACC Regular Season crown and No. 1 seed in only the third year. The Wildcats are 7-4 overall this season, going 7-1 in the CACC.
