
MONSEY, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team wrapped up the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season on Tuesday, defeating Dominican, 7-0, at Manny Welder Park to head into the CACC Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
The Wildcats won its third consecutive CACC Regular Season Championship and will play No. 4 Post in the Semifinal round on Friday scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
Wilmington picked up the doubles point with the first two results on the courts, getting a 6-0 blanking by Larize Nel and Jess Purdy at No. 3 doubles. Marley Trifunovic and Alva Norberg gave the Wildcats the point with another blanking, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles.
Marley Trifunovic went right from the doubles victory into a singles victory, starting the Wildcats off with a 6-0 and 6-2 straight set victory at No. 5 singles. Alva Norberg followed her doubles' partner to make it 3-0 with a win at No. 3 singles, 6-0 and 6-3.
Valentina Ivankovic gave the Wildcats the team win at No. 4 singles, winning in straight set, 6-2 and 6-3. Jess Purdy kept the shutout alive with a 6-2 and 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles before Kushi Khandoji needed a first set tiebreaker to take a 1-0 lead, 7-6 (7-4), before winning the match, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. Larize Nel then capped the shutout with a 6-4 and 6-3 victory at No. 6.
The Wildcats will host the CACC Tournament at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The Wildcats and Eagles will be the first CACC Tournament Semifinal match at 10:00 am. followed by No. 2 Jefferson and No. 3 Chestnut Hill.
