Men’s Cross Country Moves Up Two Spots to No. 6 in Latest USTFCCCA East Region Poll

NEWARK, Del. - - After coming in second place at the 31st Annual Don Cathcart Invitational last week, the Wilmington University men's cross country team jumped two spots to No. 6 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Poll.

Garrett Checchi led the men to a second place finish out of 15 programs last weekend, finishing seventh overall. Brandon Cruz finished ninth overall to help the Wildcats earn 65 point and finish behind only Atlantic Region No. 8 East Stroudsburg in the standings.

Only two spots remained the same int his week's poll, starting with the top in Southern Connecticut State. They remain at No. 1, while Roberts Wesleyan jumps up a spot to No. 2 overall this week. American International falls a spot to No. 3 while Stonehill remains at No. 4. Southern New Hampshire and Wilmington jump ahead of Franklin Pierce, landing in spots No. 5 and 6. Franklin Pierce falls two spots to No. 7 while Le Moyne rejoins the grouping at No. 8 this week. Assumption also fell two spots to No. 9 while Bentley rejoins the group at No. 10.

The Wildcats will see a lot of Belmont Plateau in the coming weeks, as they will run the Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, course three straight weeks, including two postseason races. First up, however, is the Jack St. Clair Memorial meet on Saturday hosted by Jefferson. The women start at 12:15 followed by the men running at 1:00 p.m.
