NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Following a team victory at the 2022 Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet, a pair of Wilmington University men's track and field athletes were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Athletes of the Week on Wednesday.
Tyler Levons (Laurel, Md.) and Akeel Blake (Drexel Hill, Pa.) shines for the Wildcats on Saturday at Salisbury University, resulting in being named on the Weekly Report. Levons was named the Co-Track Athlete of the Week while Blake was named the Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week.
Tyler Levons won the 100-meter event, racing to a victory ahead of 29 other student-athletes with a time of 11.16 seconds. He also finished second in the 200-meter event, crossing the line in 22.38 seconds to only trail one other student-athlete. Levons was the starter for the 4x100-meter relay team that finished second overall as well, getting the team off to a great start that ended with a time of 43.33 seconds.
Akeel Blake swept the Field awards after sweeping the jumping events at the first meet of the season. He won the high jump with a best of 1.85 meters (6'0.75''), out-jumping seven other competitors. He then won the men's long jump with a distance of 6.92 meters (22'8.50''), beating the second-place winner by over two feet. He bested 11 other jumpers in the long jump field. He completed the sweep with a first place finish out of six triple jumpers, coming up with a best of 13.54 meters (44'5.25''). He won the event by over three feet. Blake was also the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed fourth overall.
The Wildcats are back on the road this weekend, as they travel to Myrtle Beach South Carolina to take part in the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, hosted by the city of Myrtle Beach and Coastal Carolina University.
