Bentley Powers Past Women’s Basketball, 84-36

WILMINGTON, Del. - - Perennial East Region power Bentley hit 12 three-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field in an 84-36 victory over the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Saturday inside the Joseph West Jones Center on the campus of Goldey-Beacom.

The Falcons (2-0) came out and hit seven three-pointers in the first quarter alone, finishing 12-for-25 from distance in the game. The Wildcats (0-2) were again led by Jasmine McDuffie's team high 13 points, hitting three three-pointers herself.

After the Wildcats won the opening tip, Jasmine McDuffie quickly hit her first three-pointer for the early 3-0 lead. Bentley came back and scored the next eight points and never looked back. Emma Brown made a layup with 4:50 to play to bring the Wildcats to within 16-7, but then the Falcons used an 11-0 run to take a 27-7 lead. Aniyah Bond hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to close the quarter with the Falcons on top, 27-10.

The Falcons used a 15-0 run spanning the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter to take a 55-17 lead, leaving the Wildcats scoreless for 8:09 of game-time.

Jasmine McDuffie scored 13 points while adding four rebounds and a blocked shot. Emma Brown finished with nine points and 10 rebounds while Samiyah McFarlane scored six points. Mya Nisbet led with four assists for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats make their home debut this season on Wednesday night, as they host Lincoln (Pa.) for another nonconference contest at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
