NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University Track & Field Team faced off against a deep pool of competition at the Towson Invitational last weekend. Akeel Blake again shined on the big stage, earning him this week's CACC Field Athlete and Rookie the Week.
Akeel Blake has been a tremendous addition to the Track & Field team and is making his presence known in the field. This past weekend he finished in first place in the men's long jump out of 28 other jumpers. He soared to his best mark of the season of 7.23 meters. Blake's long jump distance is three centimeters away from hitting the provisional mark for the 2022 NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships. He also finished fifth in the men's high jump out of 12, clearing the bar at 1.95 meters.
Blake currently holds three school records for the Wildcats as only a freshman: long jump, triple jump, and high jump. He joins fellow field athletes Josh Varghese to hold three school records on the men's side.
The Wildcats are back in action with two separate meets on back-to-back days this weekend. They first travel to North Philadelphia on Friday afternoon to partake in the Temple Invitational hosted by Temple University. They then travel to West Chester University on Saturday to compete in the Golden Ram Invitational.
