EAST NORRITON, Pa. - - The 2022-23 Wilmington University bowling season came to a close in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship on Sunday, falling to Chestnut Hill, 2-0, in an elimination match on Championship Sunday at Our Town Alley.
No. 2 seed Chestnut Hill defeated the No. 1 seed Wilmington, 2-0, in the mega-match, with the winner advancing to the Championship Final against No. 3 Caldwell.
Down to their last roll, the Wildcats needed nine pins to tie Chestnut Hill, with a strike to win the Traditional Team match, but the four and seven pins stayed upright as the Griffins won the match, 908-907.
The Griffins then carried that momentum into the Baker Match, 974-857, to win the match, 2-0.
Genna Closs led the Wildcats in the team scoring with a 202 while Sydney Jones bowled a 197. Desiree Dent finished with a 184 while KC Miller added a 178. Carolece Henry rounded out he team score with a 146.
The Wildcats won the first game of the Baker match, 174-146, but the Griffins answered back in a big way with a 247-120 win in game two to take a 393-294 total pinfall lead and never look back. The Wildcats won game three, 186-177, but still trailed by 90 pins with only two games left. The Wildcats had their best game of the day in game four with a 205, but the Griffins gained even more ground with a 232. The teams tied, 172-172, in the final game as the Griffins won the match, 974-857.
With the win, Chestnut Hill moves on to play Caldwell in the Championship, with the Griffins needing to win two mega-matches to claim the Championship.
