NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Two more Wilmington University student-athletes were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the week on Tuesday, keeping the momentum of Wildcat Country intact for another week.
Women's tennis' Jess Purdy was named the CACC Player of the Week and women's cross country's Yailynn Ramirez was named the CACC Rookie of the week for their efforts last week.
Jess Purdy (Wilmslow, England) won both of her singles matches on the road last week, as well as her doubles' match at Jefferson. She defeated USciences' Kirsten Wijnsema at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-2, and then Jefferson's Stanislava Norets at No. 2 singles, 6-0 and 6-2. She also competed at No. 1 doubles at Jefferson, winning 6-1 with teammate Neus Ramos Moreno. She remains undefeated on the season, winning all five of her singles matches as well as all four of her doubles matches.
Yailynn Ramirez (North East, Md.) raced to an eight place finish out of 94 runners at the 33rd Annual Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Salisbury University at Winter Park Place. She ran the 5K course in 23:37.20 for her eighth-place finish. It is the second time this year she has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week, having won it on September 7 as well.
Men's cross country freshman Matt Gonzalez was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll as his seventh place finish at the Don Cathcart Invitational as well.
