NEWARK, Del. - - As the Wilmington University women's tennis team prepares for its 2022 spring season, it will start with a boost as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has released its National and Regional Rankings.
The Wildcats went a perfect 9-0 in the fall, winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships along the way. They will start the 2022 spring season ranked as the No. 38 team in NCAA Division II.
They are the second team from the East Region in the National Rankings, behind only No. 21 District of Columbia. Southern New Hampshire claimed No. 40, St. Thomas Aquinas at No. 43, Franklin Pierce at No. 46, and Le Moyne at No. 49.
Individually, freshman Neus Ramos Moreno was ranked third in the East Region in singles, going 5-1 overall, including a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles. She was named the CACC Player of the Year in the Fall.
Teamed up at No. 1 doubles the second half of the season, Neus Ramos Moreno and Jess Purdy are ranked No. 8 among East Region Doubles Teams. They went 4-0 at No. 1 doubles matches for the Wildcats this past fall.
The Wildcats' 2022 spring season begins on Friday, March 18 as they host NCAA DI Wagner at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
