Women’s Tennis Tops Initial NCAA Division II East Regional Rankings

NEWARK, Del. - - The first official NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Regional Rankings have been announced and the Wilmington University women's tennis team tops the initial ranking and is No. 1 in the East.

The Wildcats are 18-1 overall in the 2022-23 season and carry a 17-1 in-region and Division II record. Their lone blemish on the season was a 4-3 decision by Indiana (Pa.), who is currently ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic region.

The new ITA National Rankings were also released on Wednesday, and the Wildcats are now ranked No. 36 in NCAA Division II. The duo of Jess Purdy and Neus Ramos Moreno is ranked No. 46 in doubles in the country, going 13-3 as a pair so far this season.

St. Thomas Aquinas is ranked No. 2 in the East while Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Jefferson is ranked No. 3. The Wildcats defeated STAC, 5-2, on March 30, and defeated the Rams three times in the fall, the third time was for the CACC Tournament Championship.

Southern New Hampshire enters the rankings at No. 4 while Franklin Pierce starts at No. 5. The District of Columbia follows at No. 6 while Queens (NY) round out the Regional Rankings at No. 7.

The Wildcats travel to New Haven this Friday and finish their spring season at Queens (NY) on April 22 before the Regional Tournament begins in May.
