NEWARK, Del. – The Wilmington University women's volleyball team bounced back from a loss at Georgian Court the night before to take a 3-0 match from Post University at the WU Athletics Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats (8-8, 2-2 CACC) started the match off strong as they took a 4-0 lead in the first set and never looked back for the rest of the match.
WilmU recorded 10 kills on 34 attacks for a .200 hitting percentage to begin the match. Trying to increase their lead even more, Mandy Behiels served up an ace to make the score 19-13, before teammate Brittany Ford's ace on set point.
They continued that energy into the second set, where they went on a seven point run to make the score 10-3. WilmU out-hit the Eagles 13-12 to take the second set, 25-17.
The Eagles did not go down without a fight in the third set though, as they saved five match points before Rebecca Rawlinson and Jill Braunsberg got the block to finish out the set and the match, 25-23.
Mandy Behiels led all hitters with 15 kills and only had three errors, while Jill Braunsberg put up a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs for the Wildcats. Angel Oliver had six block assists at the net, as Rebecca Rawlinson added two block solos. Bailey Andrews led the Wildcats with a .421 attack percentage, collecting nine kills with only one error on 19 swings.
Miranda Shaw also dished out 16 assists and Jenna Brown added 16 digs in the back row.
The Wildcats out-blocked the Eagles 13-3, while having a .257 hitting percentage to Post's .146.
Up next, WilmU will take on the University of the Sciences on Wednesday for 7:00 p.m. matchup at the WU Athletics Complex.
