NEW CASTLE, Del. - - Three runs in the bottom of the seventh gave the Wilmington University baseball team a walk-off victory in the nightcap of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep over Chestnut Hill on Sunday, winning 11-5 and 8-7, at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats (13-8, 5-1 CACC) took three out of the four games against the Griffins (10-11, 5-5 CACC) this weekend.
GAME 1:
Chestnut Hill scored in three straight innings to take leads of 3-0 and 5-3, but the Wildcats answered with eight unanswered run, scoring at least one run in each of their final six at bats to take the opener, 11-5.
A two-run triple gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead and then an RBI single in the third put the visitors ahead 3-0. The Wildcats answered with a three-run bottom of the third to tie the game, capped by an RBI double from Shawn Edevane. The Griffins responded right away though, scoring two more in the top of the fourth.
Zach Frame came on and got out of the fourth and then threw 2.1 scoreless inning to settle things down for the Wildcats in the field.
Nick Classie hit a two-out RBI double in the fifth to tie the game, 5-5 and then Tyler Pirrung and Josearmando Diaz had RBI singles in the sixth to take the lead for good, 7-5. Brandon Grygo had a two-out RBI in the seventh before the Wildcats capped the scoring in the eighth with a two-out, two-run double from Edevane and another two-out RBI from Nick Classie.
Scott Borgmann tossed a scoreless seventh before Steve Schenning tossed a scoreless eighth. Steven Mann wrapped up the victory with a scoreless ninth inning.
Nick Classie reached base in all five plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with two hit-by-pitches and two RBI. Shawn Edevane had two doubles with three RBI while Tyler Pirrung had two hits and two RBI as well.
GAME 2:
Chestnut Hill scored three in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead, but the Wildcats roared back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three while Josearmando Diaz delivered the walk-off single for the Sunday sweep.
Errors plagued the Wildcats, committing seven in the game, four of which came on pick-off attempts or throw behinds. Two came in the top of the first as the Griffins took a 2-0 lead.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Tyler Pirrung sent a ball to right, clearing the fence for a three-run homer and the 4-3 lead. The Griffins tied the game on a wild pitch in the fifth, but Kory Pritchard responded with an RBI single in the bottom off the fifth to give the lead back to the Wildcats, 5-4.
Chestnut Hill regained the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits and two Wilmington errors. It could have been more, but Sean Glatts threw out a runner at the plate, his second assist of the game, to end the inning. The Wildcats left two on in the sixth, but Dom Marotta threw a scoreless seventh to bring the bats back to the plate.
Glatts was hit by a pitch to start the seventh. Brandon Grygo singled to put the first two on and then Shawn Edevane was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Pirrung hit a shallow fly to right that the second baseman went back for, allowing Glatts to score on the sacrifice fly. Chase Fleming then hit a hard grounder to third, but they couldn't turn the double play as the tying run came home.
Chase Fleming stole second to get into scoring position and then Josearmando Diaz laced a liner past the right fielder, chasing Fleming around and sparking a celebration by second base.
Tyler Pirrung had four RBI while going 2-for-3. Brandon Grygo and Josearmando Diaz had two hits apiece as well.

The Wildcats remain at home for their next CACC doubleheader, welcoming Felician to Wilson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The first pitch against the Golden Falcons is set for 12:00 p.m.
