The Wilmington University golf team shot a 297 in the first round of the Buccaneer Invitational but posted a 318 in round two on Monday, sitting in 15th place after the first day on the Normandy Shores Golf Course host by Barry University.
The 297 after the first 18 holes put the Wildcats in a tie for seventh overall as Andreas Lunding was in third with a team low 68 on Monday morning. But the afternoon session got the best of the Wildcats, as they posted a 318 to finish with a 615 (+47) two-round score, sitting in 15th overall.
Lunding led the Wildcats with a 68-76 for a 144 (+2), ending the first day in a tie for seventh overall. Sophomore Sam Clark was in a tie for 22nd overall after a first round 74 (+3) and currently sits in a tie for 43rd overall after shooting a 77 in the afternoon for a first day score of 151 (+9).
Freshman Joey Russo was in a tie for 34th overall after the first round, shooting a 75 and currently sits in a tie for 68th overall after a second round 81. Russo shot a 75-81 for a 156 (+14) in his first two rounds at Normandy Shores. Junior Jordan Lamb is in 83rd and finished the day with an 80-84 for a two round score of 164 (+22) on Monday while senior Alexander Lautenschlaeger posted an 82-87 for a 169 (+27) to sit in a tie for 87th overall.
Nationally ranked No. 4 Lynn leads the field of 17 teams with a two round score of 573 (+5). No. 1 Nova Southeastern is tied with Eastern Florida State in second after the first two rounds, shooting a 577 (+9) while host No. 2 Barry sits in fourth after posting a 290-288 for a 578 (+10) on the first day.
Nova Southeastern's Santiago Gomez and Eastern Florida State's Kerry Sweeney lead the field with a 137 (-5) after the first two rounds. Barry's Nico Cavero is third after posting a 140 (-2) to round out the three players with sub-par scores.
The Buccaneers are hosting the tournament for the 11th year, including the seventh straight season at the par-71, 6,733-yard Normandy Shores course.
The tournament rounds out with a third and final round on Tuesday.
