NEWARK, Del. - - Seven members of the Wilmington University golf team finished in atop the leaderboard at the 2015 Goldey-Beacom Fall Invite, with four-playoff holes needed to determine a winner on Monday afternoon at the Newark Country Club.
The Wildcats' "B" team earned a big boost from junior transfer Miguel Siercke to overtake the "A" team on Monday, as Siercke defeated freshman Ryan Rucinski in a playoff that took four holes. The playoff win capped medalist honors for Siercke, but also allowed the "B" team to win the Invite as well.
Both teams finished with a 294 following the 18-holes on Monday, with Siercke and Rucinksi both finishing with a 71, even par score.
Andreas Lunding and Joey Russo finished in a tie for third overall with a 73 (+2) for the "A" team while Jordan Lamb and Alex Healy finished in a tie for fifth overall with a 74 (+3) for the "B" team. Freddy Braun rounded out the top-seven overall spots on the leaderboard with a 75 (+4) for the "B" team.
Sam Clark rounded out the scoring for the "A" team, finishing in a tie for ninth overall with a 77 (+6). Troy Miller and Royce Jones were both among the Top-14 finishers in the invite as well, both tying for 11th overall with a round of 78 (+7).
Dominican officially finished second with a 314-team score while Chestnut Hill placed third with a 317. Goldey-Beacom shot a 332 for a fourth place finish while the University of the Sciences rounded out the five-team event with a 342.
The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday, as they meet up with the rest of the teams from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in another one-day tournament. The CACC Preview will be played at the ACE Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa.
