NCAA Announces Field of 80 Teams for 2016 NCAA Division II Super Regional Tournaments; Wilmington Golf Top Seed in East

NEWARK, Del. - - After capturing the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship last week, the Wilmington University golf team has been named the top seed in the East Region heading into the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament.

The top seeded Wildcats are looking to defend their Super Regional championship from a season ago and are playing well enough late in the season to do so. Ranked second in the East Region for the first few weeks the NCAA Division II Regional Rankings were announced, the Wildcats defeated then East Region No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas by 15 strokes at the STAC Spring Invite.

The Wildcats then stormed into the CACC Championship and captured their sixth straight conference title on their home course at Back Creek. The Wildcats led by nine strokes after the first round before shooting a 297 and running away with a 27 stroke advantage for the championship.

The 2016 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional will be played at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, New York, and will be hosted by Le Moyne College. The Wildcats will need to be one of the top five teams at the end of three rounds to advance to the NCAA Division II National Finals at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colorado.

The three-day, three-round Super Regional will be conducted May 2-4.
