Wilmington Golf Closes Out Jay Jennison Cup in 16th Place to Kick Off 2016-17 Schedule

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - - The Wilmington University golf team closed out the Jay Jennison Cup with a 312 on Tuesday at the World Golf Village Resort, finishing in 16th place in their first tournament of the 2016-17 season.

Playing on the par-72, 6939 Slammer and Squire course, the Wildcats closed out the tournament with a 300-304-312 for a three-round score of 916 (+52). West Florida won the event by shooting a remarkable 282-282-290 for a 854 (-10). Barry finished second with a 862 (-2) while Belmont Abbey rounded out the top three with an 869 (+5).

Newcomer Matthew Kettleson led the Wildcats on Tuesday, shooting a 75 to finish in a tie for 51st overall. He shot a 72-79-75 for a 226 (+10) in his first collegiate tournament. He tied with junior Joey Russo for the best overall finish for the Wildcats, as Russo also finished in a tie for 51st. Russo finished Tuesday with a 76, closing out a 76-74-76 for his 226 (+10) for the tournament.

Troy Miller shot an 80 on Tuesday for the third best Wildcat round of the afternoon, finishing the tournament in a tie for 82nd overall. Miller went 78-81-80, for a 239 (+23) for his first tournament of 2016-17. Ryan Rucinski rounded out the Wildcats' scoring on Tuesday with an 81, finishing in a tie for 63rd overall with a 75-74-81 for a 229 (+13) in the three rounds.

Newcomer Braden McKay closed out the Wildcats on the course on Tuesday, shooting an 83 to finish in 81st overall. McKay shot a 77-78-83 for a 238 (+22) in his first collegiate tournament.

The Wildcats are back in action on October 10 when they will either travel to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., for the GolfRank Invitational or to Watertown, Conn., for the Post University Eagle Invitational.
